The Bun Bang Fai rocket festival is more than just smoke and fire. It’s a centuries-old Isan tradition where communities send home-made rockets to the heavens to remind the gods to start sending the rain.
In the fields, faith meets DIY engineering. Dozens of rockets are fired to the sky as a high-stakes contest and a religious offering. The energy is electric, the smoke is thicc, and the landscape is transformed into a good-spirited battlefield.
